A trip got canceled on me, now I have a week to do something…..
but what? Travelling alone, so basic touristing isn’t all that appealing, and its hard to find a group trip thats the right week (now) and has space.
I’ve got all sorts of interests, so that’s wide open.

The budget is not wide open but lets say up to $2000 for the week.
I have a passport, and I live in the northeast of the US

My SIL just called and left a message that she wants to bring her family to come and stay at our house for the weekend (arriving tomorrow-Friday-morning), because they are visiting friends and other family a couple of hours from us and we are on their way home (it’s not to even “see” us, it is just to stay here to make their traveling easier).

In general, there is already a lot of tension between our family and the IL’s on this side of the family (my husband and I are well-educated with advanced degrees, have worked SO hard for all we have, and have done “well”…and there is always this expectation that we will pay for everything when they visit, etc, etc, and that we never need any help ourselves. Neither SIL or BIL work and they live with BIL’s mother with their kids. Their entire existence is like modern day gypsies expecting everyone around them to provide for them).

Being together this weekend is NOT going to contribute well to the stress levels and resentment at this point. We just do better doing our “own thing” (and prefer it, frankly). I am not interested in the “get over it and let them come…”, etc. recommendations.

I really need to know how to let them know they can’t come this weekend, I need a good reason they can’t come (because our planned activity will not be considered “important” enough to justify that they can’t come-they’d expect us to cancel our plans for them). Also, that we wish they would have given us more notice, and that we’re not a hotel/restaurant pit stop when they want to travel. We’d like to be treated with a little more respect in that area overall and want to convey that in our response. We just need some tact in our response, because that is how I was raised.

We need a succint way to convey they can’t come with a good, tactful reason to turn them away. Please help.

I have looked into RTW tickets, and buying flights individually as you go around, as it gives you more flexibility, and you don’t have to pay for it all up front.
I have heard that it can also be cheaper that way if you get last minute flights etc. but does anyone have any experience of it, and whether it costs less/more (and how much more)? Can you even get cheap last minute flight offers from Australia to Bali etc?

Both Kobe and that furry guy walked. Kobe did it twice going to the hole and the furry guy actually took 4 steps on a breakaway. The Furry guy one was so obvious my 8yo called it. She then went and counted four steps on the replay twice. I let her do it because I like to reinforce math skills and as it turned out she was right.

1. We live in Denver, the average 3 bedroom home is over 200K.
2. Hardship - Our daycare is right next to my wifes job, but clear accross town to mine.
3. Her job is starting to affect my job.
4. She is in the housing industry.
5. When she travels, it is to train people, give presentations in front of groups, etc.
6. Relax, not affecting the marriage.
