few more last minute questions about the army?
Legato asked:
alright. if i enlist in the army as an active soldier during my senior year in HS, would i be able to go to college first (them paying for college) before i get shipped off to where ever? during my training, do i have to travel back and forth between the base and home or are they going to let me crash in some base? do i get paid while i’m training? how do i go up on ranks? thanks.

No they will not pay for college first. If you want to go to college, look for an ROTC scholarship. If you enlist and you are in training you are provided with housing, such as a barracks room. If you feel the need to return to your home, you get 30 leave each year and can go wherever you want (at your own expense).

if you join during your senior year of HS you have 2 choices: DEP or split option.
split option is only available to reserves and NG, its where you to to basic training during the summer vacation between your junior and senior year, come back and finish HS, then after you graduate you go to AIT. then you come back home and do the “1 weekend a month 2 weeks a year” thing.
if you do DEP then you’re recruiters will help prepare you for basic until the day you ship out (which is after you graduate) then if you’re active duty you go to basic, ait, then your unit where you will spend the next 3-8 years (depending on how long of a contract you signed). no you wont go to college first then deploy: if your unit deploys, YOU’RE GOING. no you dont travel back and forth during training, during training (and if you’re active during you’re time in..unless you’re married) you’ll live in the barracks. yes you have a set wage based off rank and time in service that you get paid during you’re whole time in the military. as far as your soon future is concerned (atleast the next 2 years), going up in rank is automatic based off time in service and time in grade.
