What if I do not know my exact travel date but know the month I want to travel in? Flexible ticket?

I am currently deployed and am trying to plan my 2 weeks R&R from Germany to Thailand. The problem is that I will not know my exact leave dates until the month before to as little as two weeks. Is there a flexible ticket that I can purchase or a high last minute ticket price the only way to go?

Unfortunately, “flexible” and “very expensive” mean the same thing when you’re talking about commercial airlines. The cheaper it is, the more restrictive it is.
You may want to check with whoever handles travel for your base. Perhaps there is some sort of a fare for military personnel that provides more flexibility than a normal ticket. There may not be, but it can’t hurt to ask.

here’s the deal: cheap fare–lots of restrictions, high change fee
Higher fare–less or no restrictions or change fees
If you are reasonably certain of your dates, you might check with a travel agent what they could sell you which has lower change fees. I am sure that even with change fees, you will come out ahead of buying unrestricted ticket at last minute.
